Devils Trim Roster Down For Opening Night

The Devils have completed training camp and the preseason slate. With that, they announced today via a press release the team they will be icing in Gothenburg, Sweden against the Edmonton Oilers for opening night on October 6 as part of the NHL Global Series.

Forwards are Brian Boyle – last season’s Masterton Trophy winner, Jesper Bratt, Blake Coleman, Jean-Sebastien Dea – who was just picked up off waivers from the Penguins last Friday and who will wear number 10, reigning league MVP Taylor Hall, Nico Hischier, Marcus Johansson, Stefan Noesen, Kyle Palmieri, John Quenneville – who had a good enough camp to make the opening night roster, he will wear number 47, Miles Wood, Pavel Zacha and Travis Zajac.

Defensemen are Will Butcher, Andy Greene, Eric Gryba – who also made the team out of camp, wearing number 2, Ben Lovejoy, Mirco Mueller, Steven Santini – another player who has not played much at the NHL level and who will now get a chance, Damon Severson and Sami Vatanen.

Goaltenders are likely starter Keith Kinkaid, backed up by Eddie Lack with Cory Schneider on the roster but still recovering from his hip surgery. Schneider is considered injured and non-roster.

The breakdown is 13 forwards, eight defensemen and two goalies with Schneider as a non-roster player who will make the trip to Sweden with the team.

The Devils kick off the 2018-19 NHL regular season on Saturday at the Scandinavium in Gothenburg, Sweden against the Oilers. Puck drop is 1:30 PM Eastern US time and we will have a recap up as quickly as we can following the game.
