Devils to Stream All of 2018-19 Season on Radio.com

The Devils announced earlier today that they have entered into “an exlcusive partnership with Entercom” according to a press release put out by the team. With this deal, all regular and postseason games for the Devils and the New York Islanders (who also were part of the deal) will stream live on Radio.com. This is “the exlclusive digital home for all Entercom content.”

The press release says that the broadcasts will be free on Radio.com’s app and website and will also be available on the NHL’s app and website as well as those of the Devils. The first broadcast as part of this streaming service will be the Islanders’ opener against Carolina tonight at 7 PM. The first Devils game streaming will be the opener against the Edmonton OIlers in Sweden on Saturday, October 6. That game is at 1 PM.

According to the press release, Sports Radio WFAN 101.9 FM and 660 AM “will promote all live, digital streams and air select head-to-head matchups between the two teams.” This will be the Devils’ 14th season with WFAN as their flagship station. They produced the games that streamed on The One Jersey Network last season in addition to airing select games over the air.

Both the Devils and Isles will “rollout additional, exclusive content and develop new pregame, postgame and weekly shows on the new platform as the season progresses.”

Hugh Weber said that “Technology continues to evolve the ways fans follow their teams, over the last few years we have been focused on creating new platforms for our fans to engage with our teams. Specifically in terms of our audio rights, we have taken a conscious, phased approach in digitally streaming our games with the mission of making our broadcasts available when and where our fans choose.”

Isles GM and President Lou Lamoriello echoed that sentiment and said that “The ability to partner with Entercom while still having a prsence on WFAN, allows our fanbase to not only listen to live game broadcasts, but to receive exclusive content that will make them feel closer to the team.”

Jeff Sottolano, Senior Vice President of Entercom stated that “We’re excited to expand our partnership with the New Jersey Devils and add the New York Islanders. As the fastest growing digital audio app in the United States and unrivaled leader in local sports coverage, Radio.com aims to become a daily habit for the millions of users we reach each month, including tri-state hockey fans.”

This seems like a good deal for the Devils and the Islanders. I am especially excited about the “weekly shows” that the team says they will be developing for this. Unfortunately, they also promised a lot of the same thing for The One Jersey Network and we never really got that. Maybe TOJN was just a stopgap in getting here and we will be seeing this new content developed? Time will tell.
