Devils Put Nikita Gusev on Waivers

Nikita Gusev, who has been a healthy scratch for the majority of the season, was placed on waivers by the Devils today.

The left winger, in his second year with the club, has five points – two goals and three assists – on the year. He has played 20 games for the Devils.

Gusev was traded to the Devils by the Vegas Golden Knights in July 2019. That day he signed a $9 million NHL contract. He was originally a Tampa Bay Lightning draft pick.

The Russian forward made his NHL debut on October 4, 2019. That season for the Devils, He had 44 points (13 goals / 31 assists) in his rookie year. The 2019-20 season was postponed due to the COVID pandemic.

His first goal came in his first NHL game against the Winnipeg Jets.

Lindy Ruff had this to say about the situation: “It’s been a tough year for him, and he hasn’t quite been a fit. If he clears, he’s still with us.”
