2022 World Juniors: Team USA in Quarantine; Game Versus Swiss Forfeited

According to Adam Steiss on IIHF.com and a report on “NHL Tonight” on the NHL Network, tonight’s game (December 28) at the World Junior Championship between the United States and Switzerland has been canceled and the Americans have forfeited the game to the Swiss.

This is due to Team USA going into quarantine status with two players testing positive for COVID-19.

Switzerland will win the game by forfeit, officially a 1-0 win, “in accordance with the IIHF Rule Book” according to Steiss.

The United States’ next game will come in the preliminary round as well and is scheduled for Wednesday, December 29 against Sweden.

Steiss says tha the quarantine status for the USA will be reevaluated “later to determine whether it will be able to compete” in the game.

Switzerland will next play on Thursday, December 30 against Slovakia. Tonight’s lone game will now be Canada taking on the Austrians at Rogers Place in Edmonton in Group A action.
