AHL Suspends Play Due to Coronavirus

Following in the lead of the National Hockey League, the American Hockey League today announced that they will “suspend the 2019-20 regular season play until further notice.”

Much as the NHL is doing, this is due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus. “Heath and safety concerns of players, officials, staff and fans” is reason cited in the press release put out by the Binghamton Devils.

The release said that the Binghamton club, the AHL “and the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena will continue to closely monitor the situation as time goes on.” Further announcements will be made by the AHL in the future “time in this ever-evolving situation.”

Unlike the NHL (who will be attempting – it is assumed – to get all games in), the Binghamton Devils did mention that they will be posting “pertinent ticketing information to social media, as well as send email updates directly to Season Ticket Members, Sponsors and group buyers.” They addressed fans with single-game tickets purchased from Ticketmaster.com who “should be on the lookout for an email from Ticketmaster for policies regarding postponed and rescheduled events.”

They mentioned that “a more comprehensive ticketing policy will be provided as more information becomes available.” If Binghamton fans have questions, they should text or call the team’s front office at 807-722-7387.

This is more disappointing, of course, than the NHL suspending the season because the B-Devils were in the midst of a playoff race and were in a Calder Cup playoff position. The momentum the team was building was helping to give some of the younger players a chance to experience a playoff chase for the first time at a professional level. Hopefully, everyone is alright and, when they do resume play, Binghamton continues to remain hot.

Again, we will try to keep you updated with any information on the AHL as it becomes available.
