Devils Re-Up Sharangovich

I don’t know how this escaped my radar yesterday, but the Devils made an announcement that they re-signed Yegor Sharangovich to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $2 million.

The contract is worth $4,000,000 total ($1,800,000 in 2021-22 and $2,200,000 in 2022-23). The 23-year-old forward was a restricted free agent this summer.

This past season, he had 16 goals and 14 assists (30 points) while appearing in 54 NHL contests. His goal total and game winning goals (three) each ranked third on the Devils in their categories according to the press release put out by Devils PR. It also said that his 30 points were fourth amongst NHL rookies. His goal total ranked third  and his assist total ranked seventh in rookie scoring. He had a pair of power play goals and a shorthanded goal this season.

Prior to his time in the NHL, Sharangovich was on a tear. He scored 17 goals for Dinamo Minsk, the KHL club that he was loaned to during the pandemic. Ge ranked second on Minsk in goals and was “first among all U-23 skaters in goals per game and second in the U-23 group in points per game.”

The Minsk, Belarus-native was picked by New Jersey 141st overall in the 2018 Draft, the Devils’ fourth pick. He played the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons with the Binghamton Devils of the AHL. In the AHL, he played in 125 games, potting 19 goals and 23 assists (42 points). Previously to Binghamton, he played for Minsk of the KHL – where he had four goals and eight assists for 12 points over 47 games in 2017-18.

Internationally, he represented Belarus at the World Junior Championship in 2016 and 2017 and the WJC-D1A (the next tier down in the IIHF) in 2018. In the WJC, he had four goals and four assists (eight points) over 17 games. He also played for Belarus at the World Championship in 2017, 2018 and 2021. He played in the WC-D1A in 2019.

The press release also notes that the 6-foot, 2-inch, 195-pounder was captain of the Belarussians at this past World Championship.

Devils Re-Up Studenic

In addition to the AJ Greer signing this morning, the Devils have also announced that they have re-signed forward Marian Studenic.

The 22-year-old signed a one-year, two-way contract worth $750.000 at the NHL level and $125,000 at the AHL level, similar to Greer’s contract.

Studenic played eight games with the New Jersey Devils last season, debuting on April 11.

The Skalica, Slovakia-native was the Devils’ seventh pick in 2017, 143rd overall. He played in the OHL with the Hamilton Bulldogs from 2016 to 2018 prior to turning professional, winning a Memorial Cup with The Bulldogs in 2018.

Since 2018, he played with the Binghamton Devils of the AHL – he is likely to play with the Utica Comets this season should he not make the NHL club out of camp.

With Binghamton, he has 25 goals and 27 assists totaling 52 points over 123 AHL games. He played internationally for Slovakia at the 2016 U18 World Junior Championship and the 2017 and 2018 U20 World Juniors. He played for Slovakia at the 2919 and 2021 World Championship, where he has a goal and five assists totaling six points over 15 games.

Information for this post came from the Devils’ PR team press release.
