Devils and Martin Brodeur to Hold Press Conference Tomorrow

According to Rich Chere of NJ.com, the Devils will be holding a press conference on October 6 and Martin Brodeur, the NHL’s all-time wins leader for goalies and current Assistant General Manager of the St. Louis Blues, will be in attendance. The event will be taking place at Prudential Center.

The press conference will be at 1 PM tomorrow and will not be open to the general public, though Chere did say that Devils season ticket members will have access to tickets through their accounts.

The announcement is expected to be the Devils retiring Marty’s number at some point this season. Devils co-owner Josh Harris will be there along with other Devils and Prudential Center employees. Chere mentions that New Jersey native Kathryn Tappen of NBC Sports will emcee the event, so (you can assume) that it will be getting coverage from outlets like NBC Sports Net and the NHL Network.

If and when Marty’s number “30” is raised to the rafters of the Prudential Center, you can be assured that the game will be a sell out and a huge event. Marty is, of course, a legend and will be taking his place in the pantheon of Devils greats. Ken Daneyko, Scott Stevens, Scott Niedermayer and Martin Brodeur are arguably the core of the Stanley Cup teams and it will be nice to see all of them so honored. Marty will also be the first non-defenseman to have his number honored by the team.

More info will be available after tomorrow’s presser, when we will know the exact date and game the Devils will be honoring Brodeur.
