Devils Re-Sign Kevin Rooney

Kevin Rooney has been brought back into the Devils’ fold by signing a two-year contract worth $700,000 at the NHL level and $100,000 at the AHL level ($70,000 guaranteed according to the press release the Devils put out) for 2018-19 and $700,000 at the NHL level in 2019-20.

The 26-year old Rooney just finished “his second full professional season in 2017-18.” He signed his first contract with the Albany Devils on July 5, 2016 and signed with the New Jersey Devils on February 27, 2017.

The 6’2″, 190-pound forward played in 71 games with Binghamton last season, notching 14 goals and 20 assists (34 points total). He played one game in the NHL last season (January 25, 2018 against Nashville) where he had “three shots on goal in 11:49 of ice-time.” He has five total NHL games under his belt.

He is a native of Canton, Massachusetts who played college hockey at Providence College. In four seasons with the Friars from 2012 to 2016, he played on a “NCAA Championship team in 2015.” Playing in 144 career college games, he had 17 goals and 19 assists (36 points) and 70 penalty minutes.

According to the Devils’ press release, he won Providence College’s Athletic Department Mal Brown Award in 2016. This award is given each year “to the male athlete whose career of intercollegiate competition portrayed sportsmanship, courage and honor.”
