Devils Sign Tangradi to Contract

The Devils have come to an agreement with forward Eric Tangradi on a one-year, two-way contract. The contract is worth $650,000 at the NHL level and $250,000 at the AHL level ($300,000 guaranteed, according to the Devils’ press release).

The 29-year-old native of Philadelphia played his last three seasons with the Red Wings organization, mainly with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL. According to the press release, Tangradi “set professional career highs” last season “scoring 31 goals and 33 assists for 64 points in 74 regular-season games with Grand Rapids.” He led the Griffins in goals and was second in assists. His point total was eighth in the AHL, with him tying in goals for fourth in the American League with Nick Lappin.

He has played in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, the Hamilton Bulldogs and the Griffins where he has a total of 150 goals and 166 assists (316 points) in 426 regular season games. He also has 440 penalty minutes to go with that. He was a Calder Cup champion in 2017 with Grand Rapids and a 2011 AHL All-Star according to the press release.

In the NHL, Tangradi has played for the Penguins from 2009 to 2013, the Jets in 2013-14, the Canadiens in 2014-15 and the Wings from 2015 to 18. He was drafted out of the OHL’s Belleville Bulls by the Ducks in the second round (42nd overall) of the 2007 Draft.

He has 144 NHL games under his belt and has five goals and ten assists for 15 points. Add to that 86 penalty minutes. His best NHL season was in 2013-14 with Winnipeg when he played in 55 games and had three goals and three assists for six points.

The press release also mentions that he skated internationally for the US at the 2009 World Juniors.
