Mississauga Punches Ticket to Conference Final

The Mississauga Steelheads are headed to the OHL’s Eastern Conference Finals with a series-clinching 3-1 victory over the Oshawa Generals earlier today.

The Steelheads got the road victory on the strength of goals from Stefan LeBlanc, Trent Fox and Devils prospect Nathan Bastian. Bastian also had an assist on Fox’s goal to record two points on the afternoon.

Joe Manchurek added a late one for Oshawa to make the final score 3-1.

Bastian’s goal came at 12:41 of the third period with an assist to Fox. Fox and Kyle MacLean (the son of former Devil John) had taken matching roughing penalties earlier in the third period.

Between the pipes, Matthew Mancina made 22 saves on 23 shots faced for Mississauga while Kyle Keyser got the start for the Generals over Jeremy Brodeur and made 36 saves on 39 shots.

Overall for the game, Bastian had a goal, an assist, was a plus-2 and had two shots on goal. He also won 7 of 19 faceoffs taken. The other Devils prospect, Michael McLeod had two shots and won 16 of 27 faceoffs taken.

The Steelheads now move on to the Eastern Conference Finals against the Peterborough Petes, who just got done with a four game sweep of the Kingston Frontenacs. Peterborough also swept the Niagara IceDogs in the first round, so they are coming off of back-to-back sweeps.
