Steelheads Even Series Up with 7-3 Victory

The Mississauga Steelheads tied their best-of-seven series with the Oshawa Generals at a game apiece this afternoon with a 7-3 win at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga.

Oshawa took the early lead off a goal by Renars Krastenbergs at 2:30 of the first period. From that point on, it was all Steelheads.

Ryan McLeod, Trent Fox and Owen Tippett all scored in succession between the 2:50 mark of the first and the 19:53 mark with Devils prospect Nathan Bastian getting the primary assist on Tippett’s goal. Going into the first intermission, it was 3-1 Mississauga.

The Generals got one back early in the second period when Domenic Commissio scored at 4:31. But the Steelheads answered right back, with Jacob Cascagnette socring at the 10:52 mark.

The teams continued to trade goals in the second. Eric Henderson scored at 11:53 for Oshawa and then Spencer Watson scored for Mississauga at 18:11 (with other Devils prospect, Michael McLeod, getting the secondary assist on that goal).

But in the third period, the Steelheads pulled away. Brendan Harrogate scored at the 5:01 mark and then, with a minute left in the game, Matthew Titus put it away for Mississauga.

Jeremy Brodeur made 22 saves on 29 Mississauga shots in getting the loss for the Generals. For the Steelheads, Matthew Mancina made 28 saves on 31 shots in taking the win.
