Devils Announce Details for Development Camp

Today, the Devils annouced their roster for the 2017 development camp, which will take place beginning next Tuesday, July 11 at RWJBarnabas Health Hockey House. The roster includes 29 skaters (nine defensemen and twenty forwards) and four goalies.

They also gave information for tickets for people who want to potentially attend.

Included will be the Devils’ last four first round picks – John Qunneville (2014), Pavel Zacha (2015). Mikey McLeod (2016) and Nico Hischier (2017). This will be many Devils fans first chance to see Hischier play live.

Including Zacha and Quenneville, the Devils’ press release on the subject said that six players involved saw ice time for the big club last year. This list also includes Miles Wood (who led the Devils in penalty minutes), Steven Santini, Blake Speers and Michael Kapla.

The press release on the Devils’ official site also mentions that nine of the team’s eleven picks from this year’s Entry Draft will be on the roster, including players like Jesper Boqvist and Reilly Walsh. According to Andrew Gross of NorthJersey.com, only Yego Zaitsev (seventh round pick, 205 overall) from Russia remains off of the roster.

The two players “invited on a try-out basis” are Nicolas Guay from the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the QMJHL and Robert Carpenter of Boston College. Carpenter is the son of Bobby Carpenter, former Washington Capital, Boston Bruin and New Jersey Devil. He won a Stanley Cup as a player with the Devils in 1995 and as an assistant coach in 2003.

The goaltending corps include Ken Appleby, Evan Cormier, newly-drafted Gilles Senn and Mackenzie Blackwood.

Gross mentions in his article that there will be a three-on-three scrimmage on July 12 beginning at 10 AM and a full-team scrimmage on July 15 beginning at 12 Noon. These will be open to the public, but tickets are required.

Although there are no tickets remaining for the Saturday, July 15 scrimmage, you can join a waiting list for the Wednesday, July 12 three-on-three scrimmage by going to the Devils official website here.
