Devils Sign Stollery

Happy Fourth of July to everyone!

The Devils made another free agent signing back on July 1, one that went kind of under the radar.

They signed defenseman “Karl Stollery to a one-year, two-way contract worth $575,000 at the NHL level” according to a press release put out by the team and announced by Executive Vice President/General Manager Ray Shero.

Stollery is a 28-year-old native of Camrose, Alberta and spent last year with the San Jose Barracuda, the AHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks. With the Barracuda, he had six goals and 18 assists totaling 24 points to go with 65 penalty minutes all in 67 games. Prior to being traded to the San Jose organization, he was with the Colorado Avalanche. He played in seven games over two seasons with Colorado (he played five NHL games with the Sharks after being traded there for a total of 12 NHL games).

An undrafted 5-foot, 11-inch, 180-pound player, he played college hockey with the Merrimack College Warriors from 2008-09 to 2011-12. He had 83 points in 145 games for Merrimack (including 22 goals) and was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team (2008-09), Hockey East All-Academic Team (2009-10) and Hockey East Second All-Star Team (2011-12).
