Stan Fischler to Speak in Spring Lake

In a little bit of local news, today’s Coast Star, a local newspaper covering the Southern Monmouth County shore towns of Wall Township, Spring Lake, Manasquan and Belmar had a short article related to Stan Fischler.

The prolific hockey writer and reporter – who covers the Devils and Islanders for MSG Networks – will be returning to the Spring Lake Library to give a talk about his latest book Rangers vs. Islanders: Denis Potvin, Mark Messier, and Everything Else You Wanted to Know about New York’s Greatest Hockey Rivalry. The talk will be given on March 22 at the Spring Lake Community House at 300 Madison Avenue. It begins at 7 PM and reservations are recommended by calling the Library at 732-449-6654.

The short article mentions that Fischler has written over 90 books (mostly about hockey, although he has written extensively on the New York City Subway system and his home-borough of Brooklyn) and is a five-time Emmy Award winner for his television work for the Devils and Islanders. He also covered the Rangers in print newspapers and The Hockey News.

Stan has given talks at the Spring Lake Library before and, although this one is more Rangers and Islanders-centric, I would recommend any Devils fan in the area to go. His talks are engaging and very entertaining, as he tells great stories from his 70 years (give or take) of covering hockey. He also answers questions and you can learn a lot about hockey history from picking his brain.
