Zajac Out Four to Six Months

The Devils were dealt a blow today when it was announced by General Manager Ray Shero announced that center Travis Zajac will miss four to six months after undergoing “successful surgery to repair a torn left pectoral muscle that was suffered last week during off-season training.”

The Devils’ press release mentions that the procedure was done “by the club’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jonathan L. Glashow” this morning.

This means that Zajac will return at the earliest in December, with him missing training camp. This does put the Devils in some trouble at the center position, but also opens up a spot for a young guy to show what he can do if given the chance. This should give Pavel Zacha, in particular, a chance to really step his game up to another level. We will see if he can do it.

Zajac has suffered injuries in training in the past, notably a leg injury which occurred in 2011-12, causing him to miss most of the regular season.
